Here is another very rare Carrera Abarth GTL that I saw at the Amelia Island Concours. There were only 21 built, this is chassis no. 1003, which makes it the third one built. The first 3 bodies were fabricated by Rocco Motto in Turin Italy. It was sold new to Gerhard Koch and he raced the car several times in 1960 and 1961 with great success. He was second in the 1600 GT class at the Grand Prix of Spa in 1960, first in the 2000 GT class at the Grand Prix de Rouen-les Essarts at Frankreich, and third in the 2000 GT class at the Grand Prix at Nurburgring. Koch and co-driver Hans-August Stausberg finished third in the Grand Touring Group, 2000cc class and thirteenth overall at the 1960 Nurburgring 1000 kms race.
For a little more history on these cars see my post on September 22nd of a 1961 Carrera Abarth at Rennsport III.
