The Porsche 908 seen here was displayed by Fica Frio Limited at the 2011 Amelia Island Concours.
The description read: As a complement to the awe-inspiring 917, Porsche introduced a secret weapon to contest the Targa Florio and the Nurburgring rounds of the 1970 and 1971 World Manufacturers Championship, the 908/3. This nimble and quick “Go-Kart on Steroids” dominated both events during both years, winning the Nurburgring in 1970 and 1971 and the Targa in 1970.
So good was the 908/3 that it long endured, racing competitively throughout the ’70′s and into the 1980′s, winning an FIA race as late as 1981.
This specific car was one of eight cars used in 1970 and 1971 as werks cars, later to be placed on display in the Deutche Museum in Munich. The car came out of display in 1976 to race for three additional seasons, winning the 1977 German Sports Car Championship for Martini Kremer Racing with Klaus Ludwig driving.
