1991 Porsche Carrera 4 being built for the track Part 1

This is Tom Ditzig’s ’91 C4 Coupe that he is building for Drivers Education use and track events.  The car has 157,000 miles with original paint and interior.  All in great condition (other than the dust).  This is still a work in progress.  Tom is waiting on the RS rear wing and deck lid, front spoiler and rear bumper to get back from the paint shop.

Our shop foreman, George de la Bruyere, rebuilt the engine and did a few modifications.  George had the cylinder heads ported and polished and added Super Cup camshafts.  A few other additions are a cold air intake, Borla headers with free flow muffler and a reprogrammed ECU.  George installed a RSR clutch and flywheel set to handle the estimated 350 horsepower.

The brakes and suspension have been upgraded with 928 S4 brakes, Bilstein Sport Coil overs front and rear that have lowered the car 1 1/2″.  During the final alignment George will lower the car another 1/2″ or more.  The reproduction 18″ 997 Turbo wheels not only add brake caliper clearance but they look great on the car.  Mounted on the wheels are Continental Contisport 235/40ZR18 on the front and 265/40ZR18 on the rear.  Alpina sway bars will be added shortly.

I will do follow-up posts as the car gets completed and out to track events.

To see the car on the track go to Part 2.

To see a few of George’s engines, see my post on May 31st.
