Porsche’s on the field at 2009 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

Sunday at the 2009 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance was fantastic.  The weather turned out to be beautiful after the early morning fog burned off.  Not to hot and enough of a breeze coming off the ocean to keep the bugs away.

The crowd was huge, did not get the final count but it was packed.  David Hobbs was the Grand Marshall this year.  I was lucky enough to be in the right place to see him enter the field in a Ford GT40.  People came out of nowhere when he got out of the car.  Got to spend time listening to Sir Sterling Moss tell a few stories in the Mercedes tent.  And saw Hurley Haywood in the Porsche tent talking to children and adults who were trying to beat his time in the simulators.

There was a terrific group of Porsche’s on display.  The 4 cam Porsche class is what I went to see and every car in the class was absolutely gorgeous.  In addition to the 356’s and RS6o in the 4 cam class there was a ’71 911 STR, ’67 911 R Prototype, ’64 904, ’68 907, ’66 906 Carrera 6 and a ’59 RSK 718.

I will post on each of the Porsche’s over the next few weeks.
