1963 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Reid and Liz Vann of St. Louis, Missouri entered this 356 Carrera 2 Cab in the 4 cam Porsche class at the 2009 Amelia Island Concours. This is the last, but certainly not the least, of my posts of the Porsche’s that were displayed at this year’s event.

The two liter Carrera Cabrio was only produced from 1962 until 1965. During this time, only 43 examples were built. The cars produced in 1962 and 1963 had the rare Porsche-designed annular disc brakes. They were replaced by the less expensive ATE disc brakes in 1964.

This particular example was delivered new to a European customer and it remained in Europe until the 1980’s when it was brought to the United States. It passed through several owners before being acquired by the Vann’s in 2004. It was sent to Gary Kempton’s shop, GK Restorations, for a complete restoration to its original specifications and colors.
