Palmetto Region’s 40th Anniversary Celebration being held on the Hangar Deck of the USS Yorktown

 palmetto region

The Palmetto Region’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, including social hour, dinner, door prizes, silent auction of many items of interest, and program with special guest speaker Vic Elford will be held on the Hangar Deck of the USS Yorktown at the Patriots Point Maritime Museum in Mt. Pleasant, SC on June 20th.

We are looking forward to reuniting with our members of the past and present. The Palmetto region dates back to 1969 when Warren Chard successfully petitioned for the formation of the Palmetto region and Dr. Leonard Turner formally presented us the charter. More on how we all came to be back in 1969, can be found here in an excerpt from our first newsletter.

Our celebration events will include a Gimmick Rally on Saturday afternoon departing from Mt. Pleasant, SC and include a drive thru the Sullivans Island area. That evening aboard the USS Yorktown, a catered dinner buffet and program with open hangar bay doors overlooking Charleston Harbor and the sunset over the city’s historic skyline awaits you and scores of your closest Porsche friends.

In addition to Saturday’s activities, we will have a walking tour Sunday morning thru historic downtown Charleston ending with brunch at the Fleet Landing restaurant, with views of Ft. Sumter on the Charleston Harbor where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. After brunch we will drive to Boone Hall Plantation, where the classic movie “Gone With the Wind” was filmed, for a plantation tour. There are also many other post event tours available at many of our local attractions as well as other historic area Plantations like Middleton Plantation (site of Mel Gibson’s movie “The Patriot”), the beautiful Magnolia Gardens, and Drayton Hall – one of the finest examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in the country.

Please put the Palmetto Region’s 40th Anniversary Celebration on your schedule, it is sure to be a good time. All Porsche owners and past owners are welcome, whether your a PCA member or not…

If anyone interested in participating has any questions, you can contact us at or call us at (843) 276-2367. The cost for the event is $52 per person and the deadline for registration is June 12th.
