Atlanta – The 2011 Porsche Boxster and Cayman are once again listed on Car and Driver Magazine’s 10Best cars sold in America. This year marks the 10th time in 12 years that either a Porsche Boxster or Cayman model has been named to this coveted list.
“The Cayman and the Boxster still exemplify, even heighten, classic Porsche values such as a flat-six’s raspy purr, steering that’s telepathic, and brakes that can almost stop the Earth’s rotation,” states Car and Driver Magazine.
“We’re again extremely pleased to be named to the 10Best list,” stated Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “Perennially making this list reiterates that our mid-engine cars continue to provide exceptional ride and handling that rewards passionate drivers.”
The newest addition to the mid-engine line-up, the 2012 Cayman R, was unveiled at last week’s Los Angeles Auto Show and is a lighter weight, higher horsepower version of the highly acclaimed Cayman S. It will go on sale early next year. Taking its cue from the Boxster Spyder, the lightest Porsche available and Car and Driver’s Best Handling Car in America 2010 winner, the third model in the Cayman line-up sheds 121 lbs and can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in as little as 4.4 seconds.
Car and Driver’s 10Best list is compiled every year by the editorial staff based on a car’s quality, performance, value and driver satisfaction. The winners were chosen out of 60 contenders, all priced under $80,000.
