Porsche 917/10 Chassis on display at the Porsche Museum

Tubular art!

The Porsche 917/10 is one of the last projects to be developed back at the old racing department in Zuffenhausen’s Werk 1. A special challenge for the aluminum tubular space frame lies in the extreme stability needed to handle the enormous power of the engine. Used by the Penske racing team from the USA, the 917/10 over came years of dominance by McLaren/Chevrolet in the Can-Am series. Mark Donohue and George Follmer became the leading drivers in this racing series.

Almost half of the chassis is taken up by that awesome 12-cylinder engine! I shot these last May when visiting the Porsche Museum.
